Fashion Industry During Second World War

The situation of the fashion industry during and after second world war

Definitions for some basic terminologies used in this piece of content.

  • Designer: designer, especially fashion designer is someone who creates fashion related products such as clothing, accessories and footwear.

  • Bankruptcy: is a state when someone becomes bankrupt.

  • Femininity: refers to the quality of being a female in gender.

Here is to mine a fresh perspective of the fashion industry. During the war—I am talking specifically about the second world war that took place between the years 1939 to 1935. The governments imposed restrictions on fashion creators such as designers. The barriers were directly involved with designers' work. Governments limited the kinds and amount of piece designers could use. It was the time that people needed to focus on the war and so the fashion was in vacation. As you know the outcome of the war is bankruptcy. So the economy of the people was weaker than ever and it took time to regain what was lost. During the war—it was the period that the fashion industry was weaker than ever!

Fifteen years after the end of world war—fashion was gradually returning to its prominence—especially in the western countries. Fashion world saw tremendous luxury and richness—the levels that were not seen in the previous centuries. As for Europe and the United States—fashion emphasized on women's femininity and once again—France regained its position as the fashion capital of the world.
