Story Snapshot: Design of the piece is both impassioned and majestic, and its broad sweeps of expressive power make liberated women lose themselves in admiration. Very trendy and fashionable as nail design.

In the late 1930s, Hollywood beauty girls, who were masters of the Classic French manicure, refined it. In order to get the "full-moon" manicure, they did not apply nail color to either the tip of the nails or the half-moon region at the base.

Nail color blocks with a half-moon or a naked moon in them are used in advertising campaigns. The popular technique gives a hint of retro aesthetic and boldly accentuates the nail bed for a feminine appeal.

Moon manicures saw a resurgence in the 1990s; these days, businesswomen who view their nails as an integral part of their personal style find value in this trend.

Skilled nail technicians have worked with half-moons to create delicate effects like ombre half-moons and clashing hues.

The steps involved in creating a half-moon manicure according to Leighton Denny.

  1. The half-moon region should remain bare when applying the base coat.

  1. Use an artist's brush soaked in nail paint remover to clean the half-moon shape after applying two thin coats of your preferred nail hue (Leighton chooses Rebel from his own brand).

  1. After the half-moon has dried after applying a base coat, use a light coat of top coat to seal the color.
