Subtle shading methods might help minimize the appearance of a square or hefty jawline. A matte powder, cream product, or foundation is a great option because dark hues tend to make areas appear smaller. Just make sure the color you choose isn't two shades darker than your skin tone. 

As the idea is to cast a shadow rather than to illuminate or warm your complexion, make sure your hue has a flat undertone with hints of gray.  

The shading level should begin in the middle of your ear, move down and around your jaw, and then stop approximately halfway down your chin, but this will vary according on the shape of your face. 

In order to blend the color into your face, shade it starting from below your jawbone. Mix into the neckline from below and upward onto the temples.
